SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
It is a studying of anything that can be examined, tested and verified. The word ‘science’ is derived from the Latin word “scientia”, which means ‘to know’. So science is a system of knowledge, attained by any means. Technology is the practical application of scientific knowledge. The word ‘technology’ is derived from Greek word “techno logia”. Science deals with observation and analysis. Scientists discuss, compare discoveries and existing knowledge. On the basis of information, scientists can make predication. Through advancement and development, knowledge of science is constantly updated and refined. Scientific research is divided into two fields; basic sciences and applied sciences. In basic sciences scientists work at academic level and in applied sciences, they go for practical implementation of knowledge, gained from basic science. As a result, technology develops and helps mankind to benefit from it. The principle of latent heat was discovered many years ago, but its practical form came in 1876, with the invention of refrigerator.

SCIENTIFIC METHOD
It is a technique to investigate, acquire new knowledge by correcting and integrating previous knowledge. It is a way of asking and answering questions by making observations and doing experiments. The steps involved in scientific methods are:
OBSERVATION AND EXPERIMENTATION
As you know, observation involves senses i.e. hearing, sight, smell, taste and touch. A microscope helps view tiny objects and a telescope helps to view distant objects. Scientists use observation skills to make experiments. An experiment may be any kind of trial.
DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
During experiment, scientists make measurement and collect information, called data. Scientists use mathematics to analyze the data.
MAKING HYPOTHESIS
After analyzing data, scientists try to make a hypothesis. Scientists use methods of induction to predict future out comes and deduction to infer new facts from experiments results.
EXPERIMENTS AND OUTCOMES ANALYSIS
If results of experimentation support the hypothesis, it becomes a theory.
COMMUNICATINGS
Scientists share their results and conclusions with other scientists by report writing.
BOUNDARIES OF SCIENCE
Modern era is the age of science and technology. Mankind has made much advancement in the field of science and technology, but failed to explore mysteries of the whole universe. Science is limited to what is measureable and repeatable. It is dependent on values and experiences of those who use it. Science has a great potential, both for good and evil. It can be used to clean our environment and also to pollute it.
